The Friday night Championship clash this week could be one of the most important games of Swansea’s season.

Brendan Rodgers’ side are 4/5 to beat Portsmouth and know a victory will allow them to pull level on points with bitter rivals Cardiff City – for a few hours at least.

Cardiff face leaders QPR in a top of the table clash at Loftus Road on Saturday, meaning that a win for third placed Swansea would see them rein in at least one of the sides above them in the automatic promotion places.

The south Wales side have been in brilliant form this season, with Rodgers adding an extra attacking threat following the exit of Paulo Sousa in the summer. They have lost just one of their last ten games and former Reading boss Rodgers is convinced there is more to come.

He said: “”We are showing some real good signs at the moment. We feel that week by week and day by day we are getting better.”

While the Swans seem to be improving all the time, for Portsmouth the opposite is true.

After a dreadful start, Pompey went on a seven game unbeaten run but have slumped back to their early season form and are now four games without a victory, losing three of them.

Pompey have failed to find the net on their last two away trips and it’s hard to see them getting on the score sheet against a Swansea defence that has conceded just six goals in their last 22 games at the Liberty Stadium. Back Swansea to win this at 4/5.
