Phil Taylor’s charge towards a 14th title at the Ladbrokes World Championship is in big danger of running out of power in the second round as Dave Chisnall is set to provide a serious test of his credentials.

Chisnall was impressive in his tournament debut when defeating Mark Dudbridge in straight sets in the opening round and arrives with a solid pedigree given his past performances in the BDO ranks in the sport.

Elsewhere in the evening session of action, it is the battle of the giant killers as James Richardson faces Kim Huybrechts, while Australian Paul Nicholson plays Alan Tabern.

Kim Huybrechts to beat James Richardson @ 4/6

Both men will be full of confidence given the way they eliminated seeds in straight sets in the opening round.

Richardson only turned professional earlier this year but still beat Raymond van Barneveld 3-0 in one of the biggest upsets in the history of the event, while Belgian Huybrechts was perhaps more impressive in only conceding two legs to recent World Grand Prix runner up Brendan Dolan.

Huybrechts is most likely to show he is not a one-night wonder and can continue his rise through the sport with a success.

Dave Chisnall to beat Phil Taylor @ 11/2

Chisnall was impressive in white-washing Dudbridge in the first round and will have no bad memories to look back on as this is his first-ever meeting with Taylor.

He is no slouch having reached the final of the BDO’s flagship event last year and is only so poorly ranked with the PDC because of switching codes earlier this year.

Taylor is widely regarded as being most susceptible in the early rounds and if Chisnall repeats his three-dart average of 98 from his win with Dudbridge, he could pose a major problem.

Clinical finishing, no stage nerves and a fast start will be pivotal to Chisnall’s chances.

Paul Nicholson to beat Alan Tabern @ 2/9

Nicholson has already triumphed in three smaller events this year and is the higher of the two players in terms of seeding at Alexandra Palace at number nine.

Left-hander Tabern did not look overly impressive when seeing off qualifier Christian Perez in his opening round and will certainly need to improve to beat Nicholson.
