We’re five days into this year’s PDC World Darts Championship, and so far we’ve seen little in the way of shocks. In fact, every player in the PDC Order of Merit Top 10 that has already played their First Round match has won 3-0.
And we’re not expecting many surprises this evening, as we see the likes of Raymond van Barneveld, Brendan Dolan and Simon Whitlock all take to the stage.
Brendan Dolan v Christian Kist
It’s the History Maker who’s up first after tonight’s Preliminary Round, and he’ll be taking on Christian Kist.
But despite being ranked 15 places above his opponent in the Order of Merit, Dolan is odds-against in this one.
We’re not quite sure why, either. In their previous four clashes, the Northern Irishman has won three, and while he hasn’t had the greatest of years in terms of trophies won, he’s certainly been there or thereabouts in a handful of the bigger tournaments.
The same can’t be said for Lipstick though, who’s had a relatively quiet year on the oche.
There’s certainly value in Dolan here.
Top Bet – Brendan Dolan to win @ 11/10
Raymond van Barneveld v Robbie Green
Ask any pundit in the game, and they’ll tell you they think Barney is overpriced at 40/1 to win this tournament.
He’s done in twice before, while proving consistently over the years that he can never be written off.
And he means business at the Ally Pally, after losing in the Semi Final to Adrian Lewis 12 months ago.
At 1/4, there’s simply no value in backing the Dutchman to beat Green. Instead, it’s worth looking at the correct score market. Barney has already seen some of the finest players on the circuit lay down a marker by not dropping a set. He’ll want to keep up.
Top Bet – Raymond van Barneveld to win 3-0 @ 9/4
And on the subject of whitewashes, though his opponent is yet to be decided, it’s worth backing Simon Whitlock to beat either Boris Koltsov or Dragutin Horvat 3-0 in the closing game of the night.
The aforementioned pair will meet in the Preliminary Round to kick things off this evening, but neither are likely to pose much of a threat to the Wizard.
