Simon Whitlock starts his campaign to win a first Ladbrokes Wolrd Darts Championship on day five at Alexandra Palace and the Ladbrokes News team believes it will pay to include the Aussie in a 5/1 treble with Vincent van der Voort and Beau Anderson.
A £10 bet with Ladbrokes on this tungsten treble returns £53.50.
Australia’s dominance over England in the Ashes may be falling on deaf ears to the English public, but not to Simon Whitlock.
The Aussie will be delighted by events Down Under and will hope to follow Michael Clarke’s side lead with a strong performance in north London.
First up for the Wizard of Oz is Ross Smith and we can look back to November for their most recent clash in the Grand Slam of Darts.
Whitlock prevailed that day with a 5-2 win and it’s hard to look past the 2010 World Championship runner-up for another convincing victory.
It’s been 18 months since Vincent van der Voort last locked horns with Matt Clark, and surprisingly it was the Englishman who came out on top against the world No. 28.
But that is the anomaly in the pair’s career meetings with The Dutch Destroyer coming out on top on the three other occasions they have met.
Expect Van der Voort, who reached the last 16 at Ally Pally last year, to extend his winning record and exact revenge for the defeat Superman handed him back in 2012.
Colin Lloyd may have reached the heights of world No.1 and won two major titles during his darting career, but the form that took him to such heights is well behind him.
The 40-year-old has tumbled down the world rankings in recent seasons and his record competing at the major televised tournaments is not something to brag about.
Therefore we are taking the Colchester-born star on with PDC new boy Beau Anderson. The Australian chucker is a bit of an unknown quantity but his recent win in the Oceanic Masters – a tournament previously won twice by The Wizard of Oz Simon Whitlock no less – shows he has talent.
If Anderson settles quickly on the big stage, he could provide the next big upset at Alexandra Palace.
