In celebration of the return of some festive tungsten action, Ladbrokes have a special offer running in tandem with their Ladbrokes World Championship Darts outright market.
If Phil Taylor, the 10/11 favourite and 16-time world champion, plots a predictable path to the final and goes on to lift the trophy he’s so familiar with, then Ladbrokes will refund all losing outright bets, up to the value of £25, as a free bet.
The offer allows punters to get a tad creative with their selections, so long as they are placed before the start of play on December 13, and stump for some longer priced players in the hope of landing a whopping windfall.
Few of the players who are priced in double figures to win the tournament are in better form than Robert Thornton, who can be gambled on at 50/1 with the potential of scooping £1,250 from a £25 bet should he succeed.
Thornton, imaginatively nicknamed The Thorn, has already picked up three tournament wins on the PDC Tour this calendar year and has been in such form that his world ranking has plummeted from 55 in 2012 to its current mark of nine.
Thornton is comfortable on the big stage too, having won the World Masters back in 2007 and the UK Open as recently as last year. Final appearances in the 2009 Players Championship and this year’s Grand Slam of Darts attest to his credentials as well.
The Scot’s case is pushed even harder by the fact that he’s in Phil Taylor’s half of the draw. The pair could potentially meet in the quarter-finals and should he turn off The Power’s surge, Thornton will have a fantastic chance of glory.
But should the 46-year-old bow out gracefully at the hands of Taylor then fear not, as the Stoke world-conqueror has only ever failed to reach three finals during his World Championship career and would return your money should he go on to be crowned overall victor.
