England will take to the Edgbaston pitch on Wednesday knowing victory in the third Test would see them become the number team in world Test cricket.

Having dominated India in the opening two Test matches England appeal at 5/4 to claim a third Test victory, but the weather forecast suggests the draw is the best option at 11/8.

There is a real fear that this Test match could become a wash out with rain forecast for Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, although it’s only Thursday that may not see any play at all.

The forecast is bad news for Ravi Bopara who has been handed another chance to impress the England selectors in the wake of Jonathan Trott’s injury.

Bopara has been criticised by many members of the media and public for his England performances in the past, but his form for Essex has led to a recall although he’s likely to bat further down the order with Bell performing so well at number three in the second Test.

A green pitch at Edgbaston means any play that we will see is likely to go the way of the batsman and punters can expect some high scores from the batsmen in form.

Despite the pitch James Anderson and Stuart Broad are two of the 7 joint favourites at 12/1 to land the man of the match award, but Bell appeals at 16/1 with his two openers out of form.

Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir return for India and there batting line-up looks stronger with the return of both players, but their bowling attack has been decimated with the losses of Zaheer Khan and Harbajan Singh.

England can take full advantage of India’s depleted squad and while the rain may stifle any attempts of victory, it’s the England batsman who are going to dominate this Test match so back them to score highly.
