Charlie Longsdon reports Vulcanite on course for Cheltenham after the horse was found to be under the weather when beaten on his latest outing.
The Chipping Norton trainer was disappointed with Vulcanite’s run behind Montbazon at Newbury but it came at a time when several of his string were not 100%.
Vulcanite is now reported to be back on song and he is likely to take up his entry in the William Hill Supreme Novices’ Hurdle rather than the Vincent O’Brien County Handicap Hurdle at the Festival.
“He wasn’t quite right after his run at Newbury and we’ve got all that sorted now. Fingers crossed it’s all systems go for Cheltenham,” said Longsdon.
“A few of mine were wrong at that time, so we gave them a quiet week. He wasn’t the only one.
“I’m not trying to make excuses for him, but I know he’s a better horse than that.
“He’ll probably go for the Supreme.”
