Hunt Ball defies handicap to land Investments Chase

The remarkable Hunt Ball (13/2f) rounded off an incredible campaign with a clear-cut victory in the Pulteney Land Investments Chase.

The Keiran Burke-trained seven-year-old had already won six races this season and improved again to make it number seven in decisive style under top weight of 12st.

Nick Scholfield gave the winner a cool ride, leading the chasing pack as Cucumber Run led the 20-horse field a merry dance.

Vino Griego jumped to the front at the top of the hill but was swamped at the bottom of it, Battle Group taking over turning into the straight with the eventual winner about to make his move.

Hunt Ball jumped to the front on landing over the second from home and the race was quickly over as a contest, eventually crossing the line eight lengths clear of the running-on White Star Line (14/1), with Owen Glendower and Battle Group (both 33/1) taking minor honours.
