Cloudy Lane will run under Donald McCain’s name in the Christie’s Foxhunter Chase, despite having qualified for the race with his wife, Sian.
Winner of the Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival in 2007, the 12-year-old went on to run in three Grand Nationals, finishing sixth to Comply Or Die in 2008.
Cloudy Lane was off the track for nearly two years before finishing second to Chapoturgeon in a hunter chase at Newbury in January.
He then won at Ayr, qualifying for the Foxhunter in the process.
McCain told Racing UK: “He went to Sian because, with the bad weather, we were in danger of him not being qualified and she could run him in point-to-points, which I couldn’t do.
“We got him qualified under Rules, he’s back in the yard now, and the old horse is in great nick.
“He’s only ever been to Cheltenham once and won.”
