Amir Khan believes his pace will carry him to victory against Middleweight champion Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in Las Vegas this weekend and if that’s to be the case the Brit is going to have to maintain that pace for 12 rounds.

According to many pundits, and the man himself, Khan is unlikely to possess the power to stop the naturally bigger and more powerful Mexican, meaning fast hands and good defence will be Khan’s biggest assets as he goes in search of a points win.

However, while Khan will be relying on skill to see him through Canelo is likely to assert his physical superiority and as such many will be backing Alvarez to win by stoppage.

The 25-year-old has won 32 of his 46 professional fights by knockout or technical knockout and with 23 of those stoppages coming in the first half of fights many could be tempted to back the WBC and The Ring champion to send Khan crashing out in the early exchanges.

Canelo is the 2/7 favourite for the fight, with Khan deemed the underdog at 3/1 but with a points win apparently the Brit’s best hope the 4/1 on a Khan decision could prove better value.

However, with the fight 9/20 not to go the distance and few people, if any, giving Khan a chance of a stoppage it could pay to back Canelo in the round betting markets.

The second round has been the Mexican’s most successful to date, with six knockouts, and can be backed at 12/1, while it’s 4/1 he wins in rounds one to three.

Meanwhile 3/1 says the favourite wins between round four and six and with nine career KOs falling into that category there will be plenty tempted to lump on.

For those looking for more certainty, however, the 7/5 for Canelo to get Khan out inside six rounds looks to be the safest option.

Like the rest of the country Ladbrokes News will be cheering Amir on this weekend but with our realistic hats on we think he may have bitten off more than he can chew this time.
