As our friends across the pond celebrate Martin Luther King day with a national holiday, basketball fans on these shores reap the benefits with a host of games being played at a reasonable viewing hour.
Two of those matches, the battle of New York between the Knicks and the Brooklyn Nets, and Miami Heat’s trip to the Atlanta Hawks, get the BT Sport treatment as well as a dedicated, tip-laden preview below. Enjoy.
In early December it was the Knicks who took the bragging rights in their inter-city rivalry with Brooklyn, as they ended a nine-game losing streak with a 113-83 win over the Nets at the Barclays Center.
They head into the second meeting of the season with Jason Kidd’s men in the middle of another, albeit shorter, slump.
The Knicks have lost three in a row ahead of this clash, but shouldn’t be too hopeful of repeating the redemption dose this time.
The Nets have won six of their last seven games and have stars, such as Deron Williams and Paul Pierce, back in uniform that weren’t available for the first clash. Take them to overcome a seven-point handicap at 13/8.
Miami bring their six-game road trip to a close against a formidable home opponent, who can capitalise on LeBron James and co’s weary legs.
Not only have the Heat been away for an extended period, they’re also having to endure a unwavering run of four games in five nights of which this is the third.
The defending champs have won just two of their previous five games on this trip and now face a Hawks side who’ve won seven of the last eight at Philips Arena along with 14 of their 19 at home this season.
Their 7/4 odds just to win this match are therefore incredibly tempting and should be snapped up with haste.
